Ismark the Great
Source characterization: Homebrew. Disambiguation note: this is a historical ancestor, distinct from the present-day Ismark (Kolyan’s son) already established elsewhere in this bible.
Role: Historical figure; co-led the effort to bind Strahd in stasis; founded the beginnings of Barovian civilization
Key characterization principles:
- Bands together with Lugdana and the Martikov family (aided by werewolf knowledge and possibly the wereravens) to bind Strahd in stasis.
- Dies of natural causes while laying the foundations of a new civilization (i.e., the village of Barovia), rather than in direct combat like Lugdana.
- The present-day village’s persecution/hero-worship dynamic around Doru and Kolyan Indirovich is explained as blame for their ancestors’ role in this historical binding.
Current narrative status: Historical figure, centuries deceased.
