Stella Watcher
Source characterization: RAW;
Role: Lady Fiona Watcher’s daughter; driven mad by her marriage to Victor Volokovich
Key characterization principles:
- Married off to Victor Volokovich by her mother as a political maneuver; broke down after Victor’s cruelty.
- Kept locked away by Fiona.
- Floated as an alternate “lost soul” lead for the Tome of Strahd questline — the party would need to parse coherent information out of her ravings. Noted as a weaker/less-integrated branch than the Casimir/Petrina option.
- [IDEA — NONCANONICAL] 2026-09-19 — how she went mad: after marrying into the Volokovich household she looked repeatedly into the Spirit Mirror (now a mirror of the future — see the REVISION in Tome of Strahd). She saw herself ghostly pale, with worms crawling under her skin and burrowing into her eyes, and blinded herself to “remove them” before being returned to the Watcher House mad. The leaning is that she really is parasite-infected (The Withering Sickness (parasites + poison)) and the mirror only showed her the truth.
- [IDEA — NONCANONICAL] Stella’s diary has ended up in Morgantha’s bag of sentimental items. Elaine reads its last entry aloud mockingly in the planned Session 10 road encounter (Planned Encounters for the Next Session (A)). This gives the party a new, more concrete lead into Stella.
Current narrative status: Not yet encountered in play. Session 10 (canonical): the party now holds her diary (Reyna has the book; Gaille has some loose pages). Its contents, as revealed in play: written in first person by a young noblewoman marrying Victor Volokovich, whom she’d met only twice and was besotted with; her mother had awaited the union since her birth. Victor turned out to be cold and rude. The Volokovich manor is lonely and creepy — almost no one around but the Burgomaster, “this weird big dog,” and sometimes her husband — and she hears occasional screaming. Her mother stopped answering her letters and she can’t leave. She began seeing shadows and feeling worms crawling inside her, and the entries degrade into a paranoid scrawl; the maids didn’t believe her. The final read-aloud entry describes the mirror showing her sallow skin and worms in her eyes. Ireena confirmed in play that Victor married Stella Watcher several months ago and Stella hasn’t been seen in society since. (Chris accidentally typed part of her name to Gaille and Reyna; only the letter “S” registered.) The party suspects she is trapped or in danger in the Volokovich manor. Why she went mad (the Spirit Mirror / parasite explanation) is still [IDEA — NONCANONICAL].
