Session 0.5e - A Call Home

Players: Theren Channel: #0-5e-a-call-home

Summary:

  • Two days into a diplomatic assignment, Theren’s ironwood pendant burns against his chest — his mother Violet sends a telepathic message: “Amarthan-elen, return. Melimoialë is unwell. Hurry.” He rides through the night with his cousin Amogano, cutting a two-day journey to one
  • Arriving at the village, the guardsman (his father’s old colleague, described as an uncle-figure) strips the reins from their hands and directs them immediately to the Healer’s Hall — a yurt embedded in the base of an old oak tree
  • Amogano is stopped at the entrance by guards; Theren alone is permitted inside
  • Ninthalor and Theren’s grandfather await him with grim faces. The scene: Violet weeping over Reysatra’s unconscious body, the eldest cleric of the Elven Church present with hands crossed in prayer, archaic runes sealing the room
  • The eldest cleric produces a soul scrying wand — it does not react over Reysatra’s body. The verdict: “Her soul has been lost.”
  • Theren shoves to her side, takes her hand, and prays to Rillifane Rallathil — a desperate, jumbled prayer of denial. He rounds on Ninthalor in anger
  • Ninthalor responds with cold pragmatism: soul loss is not unheard of in Arondir Lethyr, especially among those who don’t make Fey contracts. Violet furiously defends Reysatra and insists foul magic is at play
  • On a Religion check (dirty 20), Rillifane Rallathil responds — a whisper of wind at Theren’s ear: “Drawn upon my power, she does. Far away, and unalive, Uluchnir Lav-Varno Eryn is. Stubborn. Trapped.”
  • Scene closes open-ended — the god has confirmed Reysatra’s soul is alive but trapped elsewhere. The Hollow Dragon’s Tooth item thread is now live. The intention agreed on by Theren’s player and the DMs is that Theren makes a deal with Titania

Key revelations & consequences:

  • Reysatra’s soul is confirmed lost from her body but not destroyed — Rillifane Rallathil’s message implies she is trapped somewhere, drawing on his power, alive in some form
  • The name Uluchnir Lav-Varno Eryn appears to be how Rillifane refers to Reysatra — worth tracking as her divine/true name
  • Ninthalor is established as cold and politically pragmatic; his relationship with Theren is adversarial and carries long history
  • Violet Larkwing (Theren’s mother, a druid) is fiercely protective and suspects supernatural foul play — she may be a useful ally or source of information
  • Amogano (Theren’s cousin) is established as a traveling companion and trusted figure, though kept outside the inner circle for this scene
  • The Hollow Dragon’s Tooth as a soul vessel is now narratively motivated — Theren has reason to be actively searching for a container for his sister’s soul

Key NPCs established:

  • Violet Larkwing — Theren’s mother, druid, emotionally volatile in grief, suspects foul magic
  • Ninthalor — Elder figure, stone-faced pragmatist, adversarial toward Theren; likely Elven Church-aligned
  • Amogano — Theren’s cousin, loyal traveling companion
  • The Eldest Cleric — Unnamed; possesses the soul scrying wand; significant religious authority in the village

Open threads:

  • Where is Reysatra’s soul trapped, and what drew it out of her body?
  • What does Uluchnir Lav-Varno Eryn mean — is this her true name, a title, or a location reference?
  • What are Violet’s and Eltharion Eryndor’s stated wishes for Reysatra’s fate that the eldest cleric referenced?
  • Ninthalor’s mention of Fey contracts as protective — does this connect to Theren’s own contract with Titania?
