Lugdana

Source characterization: Homebrew, tied to the Order of the Silver Dragon’s destruction and Strahd’s temporary stasis

Spelling (confirmed 2026-09-24): the correct spelling is Lugdana. Earlier transcripts and entries rendered it “Longdonna,” “Longdona,” and “Wangdana”; all references in this bible have been updated.

Role: Historical hero; led the effort (with Ismark the Great and the Martikov family) to bind Strahd in stasis rather than kill him outright

Key characterization principles:

  • Era: generations after Markovia’s death, once it becomes understood that a true kill is impossible while the Fanes remain unrestored.
  • Possibly given the Holy Symbol of Ravenkind by Madam Eva specifically because she knew this group couldn’t win outright and needed a stopgap.
  • Dies to werewolves during this period.
  • Tied to Ismark’s great-grandfather-era history — described as “his best friend” in the version of this tale reassigned to Stanimir for the planned campfire storytelling scene (see Session 9 prep), which gestures toward Yester Hill without yet giving players a concrete reason to go there.
  • This incarnation of Strahd (the one Lugdana eventually helps bind) is intentionally rawer/more reckless than the patient, learned Strahd of the present day — the March of the Dead is framed as a long parade of failed champions before Lugdana’s expedition, each failure sharpening Strahd’s tactics.

Current narrative status: Historical figure, centuries deceased. Session 9 update: Stanimir told this tale at the Tser Falls campfire, substantially as planned (see Session 9 log). The table judged it a half-truth: “Lugdana surely existed… we do not know where she is.”
